Entry-Level Software Developer

This position allows for remote work; however, candidates who can occasionally work onsite at locations such as Newport News, VA; Lexington, MA; Orlando, FL; Charlottesville, VA; Omaha, NE; or Morgantown, WV will be given preference.

Primary Responsibilities: • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug critical software source code using modern programming languages like Java. • Engage in the complete software development lifecycle within broadly defined parameters. • Utilize Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git for work management and team collaboration.

• Assist in creating and updating relevant documentation and specifications for design, development, and testing processes. • Identify potential challenges and work to develop effective solutions. • Estimate and plan development tasks to enhance performance metrics.
• Produce maintainable code in accordance with specifications. • Create automated tests as part of a continuous integration process. • Take ownership of delivering components of the system or application.
• Collaborate closely with fellow engineers to develop optimal technical designs for new products. • Develop software solutions that prioritize customer needs, even when the solution may be ambiguous. Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 0-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree.

Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance or higher, and capable of maintaining the clearance during employment.

• Hands-on experience with Java/C++ and object-oriented programming (applicants will be tested). • Experience with JavaScript and JS frameworks like React. • Capability to apply fundamental software development processes.
• A strong, self-motivated desire to learn new programming languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques. • Able to work independently with minimal supervision. • Skilled at collaborating effectively within a multi-disciplined engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications: • Familiarity with web technologies like HTML, CSS, XML, REST, JSON, SOAP, and WSDL. • Understanding of web application technologies such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, etc. • Knowledge of a version control system (e.g., Git).

• Understanding of Agile development methodologies. • Familiarity with various operating systems (Mac OSX, Windows, LINUX, etc.). • Acquainted with at least one Relational Database Management System (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.).
• Proficient in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Visio, & PowerPoint). • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB). • Understanding of server-side JavaScript.
