POLICE RECRUIT

JOB SUMMARY This is an entry‑level trainee position for individuals seeking a career as a Police Officer with the Town of Lantana. Police Recruits are hired under the Town’s Police Recruit Scholarship Program, which provides financial support for tuition, uniforms, equipment, and books associated with the Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Academy. While attending the academy, Recruits are compensated hourly and receive benefits.

Upon successful completion of the program and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) State Officer Certification Exam, the Recruit may be reclassified to a sworn Police Officer position with all applicable benefits under the Town’s current labor contract. This is a temporary training position. Recruits who do not complete the program or fail to meet certification requirements will be released from employment.

Additionally, those who do not fulfill a three‑year full‑time employment commitment following certification may be required to reimburse the Town for all associated training and equipment costs, per the terms of the Police Recruit Scholarship Agreement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. • Attend and complete all required courses and practical training at an approved Florida Law Enforcement Academy. • Successfully pass the State Officer Certification Examination for law enforcement. • Maintain required attendance and academic standing at the training institution.
• Follow all Town and academy rules, policies, and procedures. • Perform administrative or operational tasks within the Lantana Police Department when not in active academy training. • Participate in departmental and Town‑mandated training programs.
• Maintain professional behavior, discipline, and integrity as a representative of the Lantana Police Department. • May be required to assist in preparation, response, or recovery activities during declared Town emergencies. • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and integrity. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must be a U.S.

Citizen. Minimum age of 21 at time of swearing‑in (may apply if under 21 but will be eligible by that time). Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.

High school diploma or equivalent (college transcripts, if applicable, must be provided). Must pass Physical Agility Test (PAT), Basic Abilities Test (BAT), background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination. Must comply with the Town’s drug‑free workplace policy and be subject to pre‑employment and random drug testing.

Character and physical condition must be suitable for law enforcement work. Must sign a Police Recruit Scholarship Agreement outlining training reimbursement and a three‑year employment commitment. DISQUALIFIERS • Applicants with prior or current certifications as a Police Officer, Corrections Officer, or Military Police are not eligible for this program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must commit to a three‑year full‑time employment period with the Town of Lantana Police Department upon certification. Failure to meet this requirement may result in full or prorated reimbursement of training costs. Employment remains at‑will.

The Town may terminate employment at any time for any lawful reason. Candidate must pass the state certification exam upon completion of the Police Academy. Must be willing to perform duties in preparation, response, or recovery related to Town‑declared emergencies.

Must have reliable transportation and be reachable for emergency notifications. Recruits may be assigned administrative or operational tasks when not actively attending the academy. Where an emergency impacts the Town of Lantana, all employees are subject to work or return to duty as directed to ensure continuation and restoration of services, maintain safety and fulfill the Town’s responsibility to its citizens.

Employee may be required to assist in duties unrelated to regular duties during emergencies. Employee is subject to pre‑employment, random, and reasonable suspension drug testing under FL State Statutes 440 Drug‑free workplace program requirements. Must have abstained from the use of illegal substances and must be drug‑free (including marijuana) for a minimum of the last three consecutive years.
