USBP is hiring immediately for full-time, entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions. Salary and Benefits Annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs varies by grade, as follows: GL-5/GL-7 $49,739 - $89,518 per year Note: Pay rates vary by duty location; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in specific areas.

A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay due to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with potential progression through multiple grade levels (GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, GS-12) based on successful completion of requirements. Border Patrol Agents have access to a wide range of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).

• Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can receive up to a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 given for accepting a prioritized location. • Retention Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may also be eligible for up to $40,000 in incentives over their first four years.

Duties and Responsibilities As a Border Protection Officer, you will be a crucial part of a workforce dedicated to safeguarding the American people by defending our borders and deterring illegal activities. Your typical assignments will include: • Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspecting documents and belongings for citizenship or violations. • Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near the borders while conducting surveillance from covert positions using advanced technology during night operations.

• Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry. • Conducting various checks including farm checks, building checks, traffic stops, and city patrols. • Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways utilizing an array of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, and motorcycles.

Qualifications Eligibility for GL-5 grade level: You qualify if you have: • One year of general work experience that demonstrates your ability to take charge, make decisions under pressure, maintain composure, and gather information effectively through observation and questioning; OR • A bachelor's degree or completion of a four-year course study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR • A combination of relevant experience and education, calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts. Eligibility for GL-7 grade level: You qualify if you have: • One year of specialized work experience demonstrating skills to make sound firearm judgments and deal courteously with individuals in law enforcement matters. • Experience analyzing information quickly and making decisions related to law enforcement activities.

Education substitutions for GL-7 grade level may include a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education in a related field. Additional Requirements To apply, you must meet the following: • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

• Residency: Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. • Age Restriction: Candidates must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday, with exemptions for certain veterans.
• Formal Training: After being hired, candidates will attend the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico for approximately six months of intensive instruction in law enforcement operations and language training.
