Essential Job Summary:: The A Welder / Fabricator is a senior-level technician responsible for high-quality welding, fabrication, and structural rebuilding of steel containers and compactors.

This role requires advanced skills in MIG and stick welding and custom fabrication. The A Welder works independently on complex repair tasks and supports the training and development of entry-level team members. Rebuild or replace structural frames, bottoms, lids, caster brackets, and mechanical parts using custom-cut steel. Interpret repair orders and/or sketches to execute precise rebuilds or modifications. Use cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and bending tools to shape and prepare materials.

Lead fabrication of specialized equipment or container configurations as needed for customer orders. Perform quality control checks to ensure all welds meet company standards. Mentor and train junior welders and assist with onboarding of new hires.

Maintain clean and organized welding area and perform basic preventative maintenance on shop tools. Track parts used and time spent on custom or complex builds for cost analysis. Collaborate with supervisors to improve repair standards, safety practices, and efficiency in the yard.

Requirements and Qualifications:: Minimum 35 years MIG welding, stick welding and fabrication experience in industrial or structural repair settings. Proven ability to perform precise welds in various positions and on worn or contaminated metal. Advanced skills using fabrication tools including shears, brakes, torches, and weld jigs.

Self-motivated and capable of leading complex projects with minimal supervision. Strong safety awareness and adherence to PPE and shop protocols. Ability to lift heavy materials, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and operate yard equipment as needed.

Working outdoors and in a shop environment. Exposure to welding fumes, sparks, grinding dust, noise, and heavy materials is expected. PPE including welding hood, gloves, boots, and eye protection will be provided and required at all times.
