Job Title Database Administrator and Data Engineer I - III Position Number 999810 Department Information Technology Salary $58,000 - $95,000 Remote No Job Summary/Description Under general direction, work as part of a high-performance technical team supporting Oracle and other databases for integrated information systems, including Ellucian Banner. This role blends traditional database administration with emerging responsibilities in cloud-based ERP environments, data integration, and strategic support for institutional technology initiatives. With the emerging need for an Institutional Data and Analytics Program, this role will be supporting the data management environment.

Typical Duties/Job Duties • Database Administration: Guides and supports multiple Oracle database instances across production, testing, training, development, and data warehouse environments. Facilitates monitoring and optimization of database performance, availability, and reliability. Supports database upgrades, patches, and migrations in collaboration with Ellucian and internal teams.

• Integration & Middleware: Supports and maintains integrations using Ellucian Ethos, and other API-based tools. Works with application support teams to ensure seamless data flow between Banner and third-party systems. Automates repetitive tasks including system and application configuration.
• Application & Project Support: Provides technical assistance and design consultation to application development and support teams. Uses ticketing and project management tools to track incidents, changes, and project progress. Monitors application health and availability.
• Data & Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Reporting: Ensures data integrity across the ASU data ecosystem. Builds and manages data pipelines into e.g. a data lake.

Facilitates in the design and implementation of BI solutions including data warehouses, data marts, and reporting tools (e.g., Cognos). • Security & Compliance: Maintains database and application security, user access controls, and compliance with FERPA, PCI, and institutional policies. Participates in audits and departmental access reviews.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities • Knowledge of Oracle database design, administration, tuning, and troubleshooting. • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner architecture and modules (Student, Finance, HR). • Understanding of cloud platforms (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure) and SaaS ERP models.

• Experience with integration tools (Ethos, Data Connect) and API-based data exchange. • Skilled in SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting for automation and data manipulation. • Solid communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to manage large, complex databases and adapt to evolving technologies. • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
• A minimum of two years of experience working with relational databases such as Oracle or MSSQL and languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, shell, python, Go. • Familiarity with data concepts, such as data warehouses, data pipelines, and ETL processes.
