Plumbing Academy Apprentice

Internal JOB SUMMARY: The Apprentice Plumbers assists in the assembly, installation and repair of plumbing, water flow and drainage systems in accordance with city, state and federal plumbing codes. This may include everything from outside digging to assistance with installation of new hardware for faucets, showers and toilets to assisting plumbing technicians on a wide variety of plumbing tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Academy Program Requirements • Attend 4-6 month Academy Program • Participate in both classroom/lab instruction and ride-alongs • Pass knowledge checks/tests within Academy Program successfully Service Technician Training Requirements • Assist in installing and maintaining plumbing systems • Assist in picking up parts, carrying necessary equipment on site • Assist in other duties as requested to aide in completion of jobs and development of skills General Functions • Clear away debris, i.e.

in a renovation project • Measure, cut, thread, bend pipes to required angle • Cut openings in structures in preparation for pipes • Observe and comply with all relevant health & safety regulations • Observe and comply with all associated policies & procedures QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES: • Above average math skills • Manual dexterity (able to adequately use trade tools) • Ability to use standard plumbing trade tools i.e. plumbing snakes, augers, drills, saws • Ability to use general carpenter hand tools i.e. hammers, measuring tape, levels, and screwdrivers • Ability to take and follow precise directions from their supervisors • Ability to demonstrate active listening skills and communicate effectively to facilitate a positive and productive working partnership EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: REQUIRED: • High School or Equivalency • Reliable Transportation PREFERRED: • Two (2) years of plumbing experience preferred in performing tasks associated with water, waste plumbing, and fixture in a residential application • Trade School and/or Apprentice License for local Jurisdiction WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Ability to sit down for extended periods of time • Ability to use tools expected of the trade • Ability to lift, transport, adjust heavy objects and equipment 75-100 pounds • Ability to bend, twist, climb, squat, reach • Ability to work in confined spaces and/or climb ladders (heights) • Ability to stand up for extended periods of time • Ability to work outdoors year-round in elements/weather • Exposure to smells associated with Sewer and Water • Exposure to sounds associated with power tools and other loud noises (construction site) • May come into contact with sharp, hot/cold supplies or equipment BENEFITS: • Compensation: $20-22 per hour, depending on experience and geographic location • Mention health insurance, paid time off, or other perks.
