Director of Strategic Finance, Product

About the Role:

The Director of Strategic Finance leads financial strategy and execution across Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure. This role owns product and infrastructure economics end-to-end, partners closely with executive leadership, and builds scalable financial operating models to support growth, efficiency, and innovation. This person defaults to using AI and automation.

This role reports into Vercel's Sr. Director of Strategic Finance. This role is based in SF or NYC where we have a 3 day/week in-office requirement.

What You Will Do:

• Product Strategy & Reporting: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company's growth objectives across product pillars. Own product-oriented financial planning, including long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting, and investment analyses.
• Cloud & AI Infrastructure Economics: Lead cost optimization, governance, and unit economics for AI, Cloud, and infrastructure workloads. Own gross margin improvements by understanding our products, our relationships with our cloud providers, pricing strategies, and how we operate
• Enterprise Contract Negotiations: Support and lead financial strategy for large-scale cloud and infrastructure agreements, ensuring the terms support product growth and ROI initiatives
• Pricing & Packaging: Support pricing & packaging strategy, monetization models, and unit economics in partnership with Product and GTM teams
• Executive Partnership: Act as a trusted finance partner to Product and Engineering leadership, providing clear, data-driven insights for strategic decisions. Work and build relationships with partners across the R&D organization, finance, and accounting teams to provide improved insights
• Team Leadership & Org Design: Build and lead a high-performing Product Finance organization with clear roles, development paths, and operating cadences.
• Program Management & Operating Models: Drive large cross-functional initiatives and design scalable financial processes and governance frameworks. Default to automation and AI, getting rid of manual processes wherever possible.

About You:

• 6-8+ years of experience in product or product finance, analytics, FP&A, or strategic finance in technology or SaaS environments. Consumption-based business models preferred.
• Strong background partnering with Product and Engineering leadership
• Deep understanding of cloud and AI infrastructure economics
• Experience with pricing strategy, unit economics, and large-scale contract negotiations
• Proven people leadership and org-building experience
• Excellent executive communication and influence skills
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CPA, or CFA a plus

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $260,000-$300,000. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role.
