AI/ML Python Developer The AI/ML Developer will support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) by designing, building, and deploying artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that enhance field efficiency and operational awareness. This role focuses on developing production-grade models and data pipelines, working closely with technical and operational stakeholders to translate field requirements into scalable solutions while aligning with compliance, data privacy, and security standards.

Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models to support OFO operational use cases (e.g., risk assessment, workload optimization, and situational awareness). • Build and maintain Python-based data pipelines to collect, clean, and prepare structured and unstructured data for model training and inference. • Implement and manage models using common ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, including experimentation, evaluation, and tuning.

Operationalize AI/ML solutions in cloud environments (AWS or Azure preferred), including packaging, deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization. • Collaborate with OFO mission stakeholders to understand operational workflows and translate business and field requirements into technical specifications and model features. • Document models, pipelines, and processes to support transparency, reproducibility, and governance.
Work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, analysts, and mission stakeholders, contributing to sprint planning, design reviews, and technical discussions. The ideal candidate must have the following experience, background, and credentials: • Education: BA/BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. • 3+ years of experience in data and automation engineering with a strong background in Python and AI/ML • Proficiency in Python and common data/ML libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn).
Experience with at least one major machine learning framework, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. • Experience designing, testing, and deploying robust ETL workflows and integrating with enterprise data systems. • Be a U.S.

citizen able to pass a background investigation by the client agency. Public trust clearance with CBP is strongly preferred, other DHS clearance or DoD Top Secret is a plus.
