Position Overview Modern Group is seeking a motivated Apprentice Technician / Yard Technician to support our service team while developing mechanical skills working on heavy equipment.

This entry-level role is designed for individuals who want to build a career as a heavy equipment technician and are eager to learn from experienced mechanics. The Apprentice will assist technicians with inspections, basic repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment preparation. Over time, this selected candidate has the potential to develop into a full Shop Technician position as skills and experience grow.

We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and the drive to learn the trade. Key Responsibilities • Assist shop technicians with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as fluid changes, filter replacements, and inspections • Support diagnostics and repairs on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems • Prepare equipment for service, delivery, and customer pickup • Operate forklift and skidsteer to load/unload equipment • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard • Move and stage equipment within the yard when needed • Learn proper repair procedures and manufacturer standards from experienced technicians • Participate in ongoing training and skill development Equipment You May Work On • Aerial Work Platforms • Skid Steers • Excavators • Chippers and Stump Grinders • Telehandlers • Other arborist and construction equipment Qualifications • Some mechanical experience preferred with mechanical and diesel/gas engines (automotive, equipment, small engines, etc.) • Experience with construction or arborist equipment is a strong plus • Technical school or diesel/mechanical training is highly preferred • Basic understanding of mechanical tools and shop safety • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn • Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team • Valid driver’s license preferred Job Type: Full-time Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Work Location: In person
