Overview The position involves emergency response, firefighting, EMS care, training support, community education, and coordination with volunteers. The role supports department operations and safety programs and contributes to a positive work environment. Responsibilities • Drives and operates emergency apparatus as approved • Assists in the suppression of fires, rescues, hazardous materials response, entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul work • Administers EMS care to patients as prescribed by protocol • Assists in maintaining and cleaning fire and rescue apparatus, equipment, stations, and grounds • Assists with and conducts fire prevention inspections • Participates in continuing training and instructional programs through both individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes • Assist with training classes for department personnel • Assists with public education programs and community events needed • Communicates and coordinates with volunteer members and officers • Performs special projects as assigned • Participates in and maintains good physical condition as prescribed in the Department’s Physical Conditioning and Wellness Program • Contributes to a positive work environment Requirements • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required • Valid driver’s license • Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) certifications in: • Firefighter Level I and II • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Level II and III • Firefighter Rescue and Survival/Mayday Firefighter Down • Hazardous Material Operations • NIMS 100, 200, and 700 • Current certification as a Virginia Office of EMS (OEMS) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic.

Firefighter/EMTs must maintain their OEMS certification and be cleared to practice in the department by the EMS Physician. Paramedics must also maintain certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). This position is eligible for benefits.
