EMS Provider: EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic Type: Full Time Posted Date: 11/21/2025 9:10 AM Deadline to Apply: 12/17/2025 5:00 PM Augusta County Fire-Rescue (ACFR) is a combination Fire-Rescue system operating from 17 stations and serving the second-largest County in Virginia. The department is authorized for 149 full-time positions, supplemented by part-time personnel. Career staff operate out of 13 of the 17 stations.

Each year, ACFR responds to over 19,000 emergency incidents and transports more than 7,600 patients. ACFR utilizes a tiered EMS system comprised of EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics. Our high-performance model delivers advanced prehospital care, including mechanical ventilation, airway management through RSI/DSI, and whole blood administration.

The department supports professional growth through career development incentives tied to advanced life support (ALS), education, critical care, and specialty certifications. The EMS Division is currently expanding to include an additional staffed station. EMS providers are assigned to 911 ambulances based in Weyers Cave, Craigsville, Churchville, Stuarts Draft, Riverheads, and Fishersville.

EMS providers work a combination of 24/72 (24 hours on, 72 hours off) and 12-hour day shifts, with schedules compliant with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) under a 40-hour workweek framework. • EMT salary range: $50,092 – $77,858 • Advanced EMT salary range: $55,127 – $84,300 (includes $2,500 ALS incentive) • Paramedic salary range: $59,797 – $90,441 (includes $4,500 ALS incentive) Special Requirements: 911 ambulance transport experience is required, and at least two years of experience is preferred. Preference is given for ALS certification and related experience.

Applicants must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma. Candidates must meet and maintain the minimum qualifications as established by the Department and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Applicants must possess and maintain an appropriate driver's license, valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with an acceptable driving record.

The following certifications are required: a minimum of EMT, EVOC (Class 2), Hazardous Materials Awareness (or equivalent), and NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications. EMS providers must obtain and maintain additional training in incident management systems, Mass Casualty Incident Management II, accountability systems, medical monitoring and personnel rehabilitation, vehicle extrication, and other associated skills necessary to perform emergency services work. EMS employees are subject to non-restrictive 12-hour or 24-hour call-back, irregular work hours, and various workstation assignments.

Fire-Rescue Department positions require a background investigation. Applicants must successfully complete and maintain the Fire-Rescue Department’s medical physical based on the NFPA 1582 Standard and pass a drug screening test. Applicants must also successfully pass the Fire-Rescue Department’s EMS physical agility test.

The Fire-Rescue Chief reserves the right to revise any of the above requirements at their discretion.
