Apprentice Welder - Structural Steel

Our client is a leading fabrication and construction company committed to developing skilled tradespeople, and we are looking for motivated individuals to join our structured Apprenticeship program as Apprentice Welders specializing in structural steel. This is a hands-on, paid training opportunity designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to become a proficient structural steel welder. Based in Richmond, Virginia, US , this apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with theoretical instruction.

As an apprentice, you will learn to read blueprints, prepare materials for welding, operate various welding equipment (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick), and perform high-quality welds on structural steel components. You will work under the guidance of experienced journeymen welders, gaining practical experience in a safe and controlled workshop environment. This program emphasizes safety protocols, adherence to industry standards, and the development of precision and efficiency.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible for full-time employment as a certified structural steel welder. We are seeking candidates who are reliable, eager to learn, physically fit, and possess a strong work ethic. Prior experience with welding or metalworking is a plus but not required; a genuine interest in mastering the trade is key.

Responsibilities: Assist experienced welders in fabricating and assembling structural steel components. Learn to read and interpret structural blueprints and welding symbols. Prepare metal surfaces for welding, including cleaning and grinding.

Operate and maintain various welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick) safely and effectively. Perform basic to intermediate welding tasks on structural steel according to specifications. Ensure all welds meet quality standards and project requirements.

Follow all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe work environment. Participate actively in classroom instruction and hands-on training sessions. Learn about different types of metals, filler materials, and welding processes.

Track progress and complete all assigned apprenticeship modules and evaluations. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical fitness assessment.

Basic understanding of math and mechanical principles. Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality. Eagerness to learn and follow instructions carefully.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Physical ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and lift heavy materials as needed. Willingness to commit to the full duration of the apprenticeship program (typically 3-4 years).

Prior welding or metalworking experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
