Director of Engineering

About the Role Customer Experience Orchestration (CXO) ( https://www.adobe.com/experience-cloud.html ) is a USD 5B+ business serving the needs of enterprise businesses including 95%+ of fortune 500 organizations. We are hiring a Director of Engineering to lead a senior engineering organization responsible for large-scale, cloud-native platforms and AI/GenAI-powered capabilities. This role requires a leader with strong technical judgment, proven people leadership, and skill in connecting engineering decisions to organizational and customer outcomes.

You will own technology strategy and execution for highly distributed systems, while building a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and innovation. You will lead engineers, engineering heads, and technical architects delivering enterprise-critical applications, numerous small-scale services, and agentic solutions. What You Will Do Define and drive the technical vision and execution strategy aligned with CXO business priorities Provide technical and architectural leadership across large-scale, distributed systems Lead design and delivery of platforms comprising hundreds of microservices, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance Own end-to-end delivery and operations, balancing execution speed with long-term system health Lead teams building AI/GenAI-powered customer-facing features and employing AI to improve engineering efficiency Translate complex technical decisions into clear business and customer impact Set a high bar for engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement Mentor senior engineers, managers, and architects through complex technical and organizational challenges Build and sustain high-performing engineering teams, including hiring, retention, and career development Partner closely with Product Management and multi-functional leaders to deliver on shared goals Communicate effectively with technical and executive collaborators, influencing decisions and alignment What You Bring Passion and love of what you do!

18+ years in software engineering and engineering leadership, delivering large-scale, high-impact systems Deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) Strong understanding of system building, data structures, algorithms, and engineering guidelines Solid understanding of AI and Generative AI, including experience delivering AI-powered capabilities Experience in employing AI to improve engineering efficiency and developer productivity Hands-on familiarity with modern languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Python, React) Proven ability to lead senior engineering organizations and influence across functions Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences Pragmatic problem-solver who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments Demonstrated ownership approach, bias for action, and ability to lead change at scale Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree with equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
